Clinton, New Jersey: The Red Mill Museum Village is pleased to announce its annual Hammer In and Tool Swap on Sunday, September 12th from 10-4pm. This event is hosted by the NJ Blacksmith’s Association, under the direction of association trustee, Eric Cuper, and our own resident blacksmith Robert Bozzay. The day’s activities will center at the Museum’s Blacksmith Shop where local blacksmiths and the New Jersey Blacksmith’s Association, dedicated to the promotion of the art and craft of blacksmithing, will have members on hand to demonstrate and sell their work.

Tool dealers and collectors are invited to tailgate, sell and swap their smithing tools and accessories. We are currently registering blacksmiths and tool collectors. Among the items to be found will be anvils, blowers, forges, vises, hammers, and tongs. Should anyone have a “what is it” cluttering up the garage, bring it along and we will be glad to identify it for you.

At 10:00 am, a ribbon cutting ceremony will take place to reopen the blacksmith shop after a new brick floor was recently installed by Brian Fokker. Brian is a candidate for the Eagle Scout award from Clinton Boy Scout Troop 121. Brian provided the necessary leadership to fellow scouters who replaced a gravel floor in the shop with old brick that is in historic keeping with the building. Ten scouts and ten adults helped the sophomore at North Hunterdon High School. He enjoyed working on the project because history is his favorite subject and he was proud to help preserve a part of the community’s history. He hopes to achieve his Eagle Scout award by the end of the year.

Admission for the day’s activities is $8 for adults, $6 for seniors, and $5 for children (6-12). Free for children under 6, museum members and for NJBA members. Included in the price is admission to the Museum’s historic buildings and exhibits. The Red Mill Museum Village is located at 56 Main Street in Clinton, NJ. For more information, or to register call the Museum at (908) 735-4101.

By New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection:

Trenton New Jersey, September 1, 2010: Island Beach State Park in Ocean County will remain open but its waters will be off limits for the next two days to swimmers and surfers due to concerns about the effects of Hurricane Earl, the Department of Environmental Protection announced today. The hurricane is expected to pose a significant safety threat as a result of heavy surf, dangerously strong rip currents and extreme tides. The Department is taking this precautionary action to safeguard visitors to one of the state’s most popular summertime parks.

The park will remain open for other uses, and the beaches will remain open _ just off limits to swimmers and surfers. The Department will closely monitor all on-land fishing access, as weather conditions progress. Based on current weather forecasts, it is expected the State park’s water will re-open to swimmers and surfers on Saturday. We urge all patrons to contact the park office at 732-793-0506 for current conditions and more specific information on the day of your planned visit. The Friends of the Red Mill Museum Village are sponsoring a bus trip on Thursday, September 30, 2010 to visit two landmark properties on the Lower East Side in New York City. The group will be visiting the Tenement Museum and the Merchant’s House Museum.

At the Tenement Museum two different tours are featured. On the first tour you can meet Victoria, a 14 year old Sephardic Jewish immigrant, played by a costumed interpreter. The interactive tour visits her family’s apartment set during 1916. On the second tour, you can visit a German Jewish family surviving the panic of 1873 and a Sicilian Catholic family during The Great Depression. The museum has been highlighted on PBS’s, Sunday Arts Program.

The Merchant’s House Museum was owned by the Tredwell family for a century. Built in 1832, just steps from Washington Square it offers a rare glimpse of domestic life in New York City during the three decades prior to the Civil War. Gertrude, the youngest of 8 children and the last survivor of the Tredwell family died in 1933. The museum was opened to the public just a few years later.

Between visiting the two museums the group will enjoy a buffet lunch at the Bowery Bar and Grill. The menu will consist of rigatoni, chicken paillard salad, grilled veggies, foccocia bread, dessert, coffee/tea/s. A cash bar will be available.

The $80.00 cost includes transportation, admission fees and lunch. Departure will be promptly at 8:15 AM from the Red Mill Museum parking lot, at 56 Main Street. Clinton. For reservations call: Joan Burns at 908-238-0049. Space is limited.

Atlantic City Comedy Festival . September 3 . 4 . Labor Day Weekend

Concert in Atlantic City

Concert in Atlantic City

By the Atlantic City Convention and Visitors Authority:

Whether you love it for its famous piers, the acclaimed Boardwalk, beautiful beaches, fantastic nightlife, or one of its many world class casinos or hotels, Atlantic City continues to be the center for residents and visitors to experience both extravagance and easy living on another level. This summer, Atlantic City will become the backyard for some of the biggest players in the comedy circuit and for one of the Country’s biggest and best comedy festivals—The Atlantic City Comedy Festival.

The festival will take place Friday, September 3 and Saturday, September 4 in Atlantic City at Historic Boardwalk Hall. Tickets go on sale Saturday, June 19 at 12:00 Noon and are priced at $45, $59 and $85. Tickets will be available at the Boardwalk Hall Box Office, all Ticketmaster outlets, at www.ticketmaster.com or by calling 1-800-736-1420. A limited number of VIP Packages are also available.

2010 will mark the first year for The Atlantic City Comedy Festival, but, according to festival organizers it is their desire that it will become a permanent fixture, just like the city’s storied Boardwalk. For two days, fans will experience tickle your funny bone fanfare, gut busting jokes and hilarious, side-splitting humor from some of the world’s most noted, critically acclaimed mainstream comedians. The All-Star line-up features ten nationally known comics, some who are leading film and TV stars, including King of Comedy D.L. Hughley, Queen of Comedy Sommore, Mike Epps (Star of the upcoming movie, Lottery Ticket), Don “D.C.” Curry, Bruce Bruce, and Earthquake, along with side-kick radio personalities J. Anthony Brown (Tom Joyner Morning Show) and George Wilborn (Michael Baisden Show) and buzzworthy new comics like Philadelphia native TuRae and Atlanta native son Mario Tory. From sold-out arenas, top grossing comedy tours, number one films at the box office, top rated comedy specials and TV shows, ground-breaking TV shows and specials, internationally and nationally syndicated radio shows, these comics have seen and done it all.

“In an effort to continue to marry the worlds of comedy with some of the country’s most sought after and desired travel destinations, Atlantic City became the perfect place for this union to take place,” stated organizers. “And what works better than to bring people from far and wide to Atlantic City for a great holiday weekend to hear some of the greatest comedians out on the circuit today, in one of the greatest resort cities the country has to offer. People get to laugh and let their hair down all at the same time.”

Throughout the year, organizers of the festival have spearheaded some of the most successful comedy tours, including The Royal Comedy Tour, which was met with sold out audiences from coast to coast and the Big Easy Comedy Festival, which also brought some of the comedy worlds best to New Orleans over Memorial Day Weekend in May. Hughley and Sommore appeared on and/or headlined both tours, as well other featured comedians on this year’s festival. It is the hope of organizers that the Atlantic City Comedy Festival will be met with the same anticipation, fanfare and success as the tours and festival that preceded it this year.
